Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about septic services or portable toilet rentals? Below are answers to common questions from homeowners, contractors, and event organizers across McMinnville and surrounding communities.

Septic System Basics

How often should a septic tank be pumped in Oregon?

Most systems should be inspected every three years, with pumping frequency depending on household size and usage.

Why do I need to pump my septic tank every 4–5 years?

If a tank isn’t pumped regularly, solid waste builds up and can damage internal components or overflow into the drain field. This can lead to costly repairs or full system replacement.

Septic System Warning Signs

What are the signs my septic tank is full?

Common signs include slow drains, foul odors, pooling water near the drain field, and sewage backups.

What happens if I don’t pump my septic tank?

Solids can overflow into the drain field, leading to system failure, expensive repairs, or replacement.

Septic System Issues & Troubleshooting

Can heavy rain affect my septic system?

Yes. Saturated soil can prevent your drain field from properly absorbing wastewater, which may lead to backups.

My toilet doesn’t flush properly when it’s raining—what does that mean?

This is often a sign that your drain field is saturated and unable to handle additional water. When the ground is too wet, wastewater has nowhere to go and can back up into your home. Pumping the tank alone may not resolve this issue.

Septic Maintenance & Care

Should I add enzymes to my septic tank?

No, this is really not needed. The enzymes are in your waste. The only time you may need to add enzymes is if you have hard water issues or some other issue that is killing the enzymes.

Do I need a permit to replace a septic tank?

In many cases, yes. Local regulations may require permits for septic system replacement or major repairs.

Service & Company Questions

Do you keep records of past service calls?

Yes, we actually have records from DND Septic when my parents bought the company under Chem Cans and Portable Toilets and then I purchased the Septic Tank side of the business and have records all the way back to the late 70s.
